Exploring models of digital transformation for the Caribbean community
Barbados Tech Accelerator
The Barbados Government is actively exploring models of digital transformation for the economy and society. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this process. The island has long been a beachhead for global companies to expand their mandates and grow their markets in Latin America and the world using the island's well-educated labour force, world-class infrastructure, competitive tax environment and network of double taxation agreements.
The government is now helping to reposition the national tech sector to leverage the opportunities and mitigate the risks of the COVID-19 crisis. A Jobs Investment Council has been set up to advise on the nature and positioning of a CivTech-style accelerator and other mechanisms to fuel this national effort.
