Global Scale-Up Programme 1.0

Welcome to the award-winning GovTech Global Alliance Global Scale-Up Programme!

Our mission is to source, surface and scale climate tech solutions for global public sector applications.

Back in 2021, we ran the first iteration of the Global Scale-up Programme (GSUP). It consisted of eight governments and three academic/not-for-profit institutions across ten countries who joined together to provide a unique access programme in the run up to, and during, COP26 in Glasgow during November 2021. In collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc, three challenges were set relating to the COP26 goals around the climatic themes of environmental resilience, food wastage and decarbonisation of commercial vehicles. These challenges were aimed at fast-growth scale-up companies with global ambitions to provide innovative solutions.

Company successes

  • Brazil Mata Viva secured a $2m - $5m deal with another Brazilian State

  • Mash Makes accelerated investment due to exposure on GSUP and COP26

  • The Routing Company gained $15m Series A funding from the Climate Impact Fund

  • Scipopulis won a contract with a large Lithuanian municipality

  • Blue Lobster were able to increase investment due to the contacts and profile of the GSUP

Testimonials

“I chose to get involved because you get a lot of contacts all around the world and those contacts are necessary to expand globally.” Manuel Schröter - Alpha Protein - Germany

“We saw the Global Scale-up Programme as a really great opportunity to be able to get access to different players in different contexts. It's been really important for us to be able to get access to people that we otherwise would have to really fight to get just an introduction with.” Christine Herbert & Nima Tisdall - Blue Lobster - Denmark

“Since we started we have been exposed to a lot of policymakers and investors and we were able to approach some of them, so thanks to the exposure of the press about the CivTech Alliance Programme we got to know and present to the former US ambassador to Brazil and he has now come on board to spread the word to the world and we are already getting results.” Alessandra Umbelino - Brasil Mata Viva - Brazil

“The most important thing about the CivTech Alliance is the scale and global outreach. The one core thing that we learned from this experience was not only learning from different countries but also learning from different scale-ups and companies. We've been given so many opportunities that we jumped on, so I think it's been a great experience.” Matas Olendra - Datahood - Lithuania

The Programme Teams

Through participating in the CivTech Alliance COP26 Global Scale-up Programme organisations and companies worked directly with some of the most innovative government and NGO programmes internationally. With the collective expertise, knowledge and networks of these programmes these companies had a unique opportunity to accelerate product roll-out of net-zero and climate change solutions for the public sector across the world.

We have representation from programmes in the Americas, Europe and Australia with links to academia, investors and governments in each region. Through engagement with these teams, they benefited from the insight from world leaders in the innovation space, and access to pathfinders to regional government and investor stakeholders to scale their services within each region and globally.
