Meet the GSUP 2 company teams

Through participating in the CivTech Alliance COP27 Global Scale-up Programme organisations and companies worked directly with some of the most innovative government and NGO programmes internationally. With the collective expertise, knowledge and networks of these programmes, these companies had a unique opportunity to accelerate product roll-out of net-zero and climate change solutions for the public sector across the world.

We have representation from programmes in the Americas, Europe and Australia with links to academia, investors and governments in each region. Through engagement with these teams, they benefited from the insight from world leaders in the innovation space, and access to pathfinders to regional government and investor stakeholders to scale their services within each region and globally.

Blockchain Triangle, US/Bermuda

Blockchain Triangle (BCT) aggregates and reports Big Data (outputs from smart meters and IoT sensors) to baseline and benchmark economic output and climate compliance, and delivers this information to key stakeholders (governments, credit rating agencies, banks, insurance and asset managers).

Combining immutable data with financial services like sustainability-linked loans and bonds, aligns finance with climate metrics for measurement and assessment while reducing cost of capital and cost for operations for these assets.

One use case for how this works is in the Agriculture Debt Finance ecosystem where BCT is working with the University of Michigan and the Great Lakes Protection Fund to aggregate and report economic output and fertilizer usage (climate compliance) through sustainability-linked loans between the farmer and the farm credit union, with the farmer receiving a lower cost of capital (compliance), sub-scale loans bundled together, securitized and sold to large asset managers (thus reducing cost of capital further).

WeDRT, UK

In essence, the WeDRT solution is a customisable procurement platform for transport services (first focused on public DRT) connecting buyers (predominantly local authorities ‘LAs’) with a broad supplier marketplace.

The solution will generate value through reducing the total number of vehicles deployed for these services over time through the ability to tender for a fixed number of vehicles to meet average demand and the ability to flexibly upregulate, and then downregulate, this number through auctioning short term contracts among a network of local suppliers (in contrast to a fixed number of vehicles being contracted from the outset to be sufficient to accommodate peak demand).

The solution also presents the opportunity to generate further value by centralising and aggregating large volumes of transport service data through collaboration with other complementary service providers in the space and serving as a basis platform for total transport initiatives within LAs - by the provision of insights from this aggregated data, local planners and procurement officers will have far greater clarity over their supply chains and the corresponding environmental impacts of every transport service.
