Encouraging the creation and use of innovative solutions for government in Lithuania

GovTech Lab Lithuania

The GovTech Lab Lithuania is a team in the public sector focused on encouraging the creation and use of innovative solutions for the government.GovTech Lab Lithuania offers acceleration programs designed to help startups develop and scale innovative solutions for the public sector. These programs provide funding, mentorship, and other resources to help startups bring their solutions to market. We help public sector identify challenges and find ideas or solutions to solve them. To achieve this, we have developed GovTech Challenge Series, a structured programme to build GovTech solutions solving the most pressing challenges.

We help startups and SMEs, working on GovTech solutions to validate their ideas, create MVPs, build and expand their businesses. We usually do it through the Co-Create Accelerator during the GovTech Challenge Series process.

Strong GovTech community is a backbone of thriving ecosystem! We organize community events for both public and private sectors from local meetups to international conferences. We also co-founded international network of similar organisations that connects the global GovTech community.

With a team of 5, GovTech Lab is part of the Innovation Agency Lithuania. It focuses on (1) helping solve GovTech challenges, (2) Building a GovTech community; and (3) Improving public sector innovation skills.

Project Model at a Glance:

Projects:

Illegal content detection (Oxylabs): The challenge was how to automate illegal content detection on the internet? Oxylabs created an AI-powered tool to detect child abuse content.

VR game to present Panevezys industry (Iron Cat): An innovative, inclusive solution was needed that considers the changing needs of consumers - schoolchildren, tourists - and would enable the

experience of the Panevezys industry without having access to the companies themselves. Iron cat developed a game-like educational experience about Panevezys city industrial companies. The solution was based on virtual reality (VR) technology.

AI & satellite image-based solution for damage calculation (Coetus): The state compensates farmers for the damage caused by bison, but the process of calculating it is long, complicated, and requires extremely accurate measurements. Coetus built a solution that can identify damage caused by animals using advanced identification algorithms based on AI and satellite imagery.

ViLTė

ViLTė - an automated conversation robot providing official COVID-19-related information.

Truthful, reliable and up-to-date information on emergency, quarantine and coronavirus from official sources is crucial today. In order to facilitate the provision of such information to the public an automated conversation robot called ViLTė was installed at www.koronastop.lt. This is a new way to get information quickly and at any time during the day, which is particularly relevant when the number of coronavirus cases is increasing and more people are turning to helplines on a wide range of issues in the country. This virtual conversation robot, working with the help of artificial intelligence, can already understand and provide official and reliable answers in Lithuanian and English to thousands of citizens’ questions about coronavirus, travel restrictions, public support for business and many others.
