Talking points

Governments have clarity about their commitments for 2050 and 2030…..but have far less clarity about how to get there. It is clear that innovation is going to be the key…and the solutions needed do not necessarily exist yet (or at least at scale) and the social licence is in many cases untested.

What we do know is that solutions developed in one region will have markets in others, and the role of public sector procurement will be huge. (the premise behind the GSUP). ie adjacency

So the question then is where do governments want to sit on the spectrum between net consumption (import) and net supply (export) of net zero solutions to the world?

And what capabilities and comparative advantages do they have and how can they leverage them as the world pivots away from fossil fuels and extractive business models towards generative and regeneration?

Where are the net zero solutions going to come from? Incremental innovation from stable older companies and/or innovative ideas and models from new companies such as startups and scaleups - probably both. So how do / should Governments support that dual/multi-speed / multi-sector innovation capacity at the country/region scale?

Is Net Zero enough or should the aim be Net (carbon) Negative? Global challenges require global collaboration i.e. joined-up capability and efforts. So where are those coming from after the COPs finish and the execution commences?

Company summaries
